In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Chef Sanchez’s Culinary students created a culturally diverse menu featuring authentic dishes from Mexico. Using our new commercial kitchen, students gained first-hand, real-world experience in the culinary arts as they planned, prepared, and catered lunch for our staff—bringing classroom learning to life in a professional kitchen environment.
Through this project, students demonstrated each of our Graduate Profile Competencies in action:
Productive Collaborators: Students worked together to plan, prepare, and serve a full menu, ensuring smooth teamwork in a fast-paced kitchen.
Effective Communicators: They practiced professional communication through order forms, customer interactions, and feedback collection.
Mastery Learners: Students applied their culinary knowledge and technical skills in a real-world setting to produce high-quality dishes that honored cultural traditions.
Innovative Problem Solvers: They adapted recipes, managed timing and logistics, and found creative solutions to meet customer needs and constraints.
Community Contributors: By celebrating Hispanic heritage and sharing diverse cuisine, students promoted cultural appreciation and connection within our school community.
Self-Directed Navigators: Each student took ownership of their role—from menu development to delivery—showing responsibility, initiative, and professionalism throughout the process.
Chef Sanchez’s lesson exemplifies how hands-on, real-world learning develops the competencies that prepare our students for success beyond the classroom! Experiences like this empower students to see the relevance of their learning, gain confidence in their skills, and envision future careers in the hospitality industry.
