🐱 Transformational Lesson of the Week: Ms. Peake! 🐶 |
This week’s Transformational Lesson spotlight goes to Ms. Peake and her Vet Science students, who took learning far beyond the classroom by hosting a student-run, low-cost veterinary clinic for our community. Working alongside Dr. Grant Crabtree and the Bourbon City Animal Hospital team, students applied their classroom knowledge to provide hands-on care — completing exams, vaccinations, ear cleanings, and nail trims for local pets.
This authentic, real-world experience showcased every one of our Graduate Profile Competencies in action:
🐾 Community Contributors – Students gave back to the Bullitt County community by offering affordable pet care, showing empathy, service, and civic responsibility.
🐾 Effective Communicators – They engaged with clients, veterinary staff, and one another using professional, clear communication to ensure quality service and teamwork. 🐾 Productive Collaborators – Students worked seamlessly as part of a clinical team, demonstrating respect, reliability, and teamwork under real veterinary conditions.
🐾 Mastery Learners – They applied technical skills and knowledge from the classroom to authentic veterinary procedures, demonstrating true mastery through performance. 🐾 Innovative Problem Solvers – Students navigated real-time challenges—adapting to each animal’s needs and responding to the unexpected with critical thinking and creativity.
🐾 Self-Directed Navigators – They took ownership of their learning and responsibilities, managing tasks, time, and professionalism with minimal prompting.
A huge congratulations to Ms. Peake for designing such a transformational experience that seamlessly blended career readiness, community service, and authentic learning. This lesson is a shining example of what it means to prepare students to lead, serve, and succeed beyond the classroom.
