🏛️ Transformational Lesson of the Week: Ms. Weber & Ms. Barrett's Mock Trial Experience! ⚖️ |
This week, our Integrated Social Studies students stepped into the courtroom for an immersive mock trial designed by Ms. Weber and Ms. Barrett. Using the landmark case Marbury v. Madison as their foundation, students brought history to life as they examined judicial review and the powers of the Supreme Court.
Ms. Barrett’s class (Team Marbury) argued that Jefferson unlawfully withheld Marbury’s commission, while Ms. Weber’s class (Team Madison) contended that the midnight appointments were improper and not legally binding. Both sides crafted compelling arguments, analyzed evidence, and presented their cases with confidence transforming a foundational moment in U.S. history into an engaging, high-level learning experience.
This lesson supported several Graduate Profile competencies:
Self-Directed Navigator: Students prepared independently, managing roles, evidence, and strategy.
Mastery Learner: They deepened their understanding of judicial review and constitutional principles.
Effective Communicator: Students presented arguments clearly and persuasively.
Innovative Problem Solver: They analyzed complex historical issues and built logical, evidence-based claims.
Productive Collaborator: Teams worked together to develop cohesive cases and courtroom strategies.
Congratulations to Ms. Weber and Ms. Barrett for creating a powerful, authentic learning experience that truly embodies transformational instruction!
