🌟 Transformational Lesson of the Week: Mr. Peake! 🌟

We are excited to recognize Mr. Peake as our Transformational Lesson of the Week for the engaging and authentic learning taking place in his Greenhouse class!

Students are researching various types of plant boxes and using that research to design and build their own plant boxes. Working collaboratively, students will construct a finished product that they can either take home or sell in the BCHS Greenhouse this spring, giving their learning a meaningful and purposeful outcome.

This lesson is also cross-curricular, integrating math skills as students create material lists, measure, calculate costs, and apply precision throughout the building process.

Connection to the Graduate Profile Competencies

This lesson strongly aligns with our district’s Graduate Profile by developing students who are:

Effective Communicators 🗣️💬 – Students discuss designs, explain their reasoning, and share ideas within their groups.

Mastery Learners 📘✨ – Through research, planning, and construction, students apply and refine both content knowledge and technical skills.

Community Contributors 🤲🏽💚 – By creating products for personal use or sale in the school greenhouse, students contribute to our school community.

Innovative Problem Solvers 🧠🔧 – Students troubleshoot design challenges, material constraints, and construction issues as they arise.

Productive Collaborators 👥⚡ – Students work in teams, dividing responsibilities and supporting one another throughout the project.

Self-Directed Navigators 🧭🚀 – Students manage their time, make design decisions, and take ownership of their learning from start to finish.

👏 Great work, Mr. Peake, for creating a hands-on, engaging, and transformational learning experience for our students! This is a fantastic example of how real-world learning encourages personal growth, learner ownership, collaboration, and skill mastery through meaningful, hands-on experiences at BCHS.
