Cougar News 1/9

Cougar News is Bullitt Central’s weekly newsletter with important updates, upcoming dates, and celebrations for our students, families, and community.

Our theme this year is “Build The Legacy.” Each week, we are proud to spotlight students in our newsletter who are leaving their mark as true "Legacy Builders"—making a difference in our school and beyond.

Important Updates:

📘 1st Semester Report Cards 📘

1st semester report cards will be available on Monday, January 12.
All final grades will be officially posted to student transcripts by Friday, January 16.

We encourage families to take time to review student grades and reach out with any questions.

📣 SAT Parent Info Night 📣

Bullitt Central will host an SAT Parent Information Night on January 14 from 5:30–7:00 PM in the BCHS Gym, in partnership with Kids First Education 🎓.

Families can choose from two sessions (5:30–6:15 or 6:15–7:00) to learn more about the transition to the SAT, what students can expect, and how the test works. This is a great opportunity for parents to gain helpful information and ask questions as we support our students’ college and career readiness.

📅 Scheduling for the 2026–27 School Year 📅

Scheduling for the 2026–27 school year is approaching! On Friday, January 16, all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will participate in grade-level class meetings with counselors to review the scheduling process and explore all course options available at BCHS.

Class Meeting Times (Friday, January 16):
2nd Period: Juniors
3rd Period: Sophomores
5th Period: Freshmen

During the week of January 26–29, counselors will meet individually with each student to review their course selections for the 2026–27 school year. It is important that students carefully review their options and ensure they are on track for graduation 🎓.

All course choice information will be posted in grade-level Google Classrooms for student review. Families are encouraged to talk with their BC student about their progress toward graduation and future goals.

🎓 Project Grad Meeting Reminder 🎓

Parents and seniors are invited to attend the Project Grad Meeting on Tuesday, January 20 at 6:30 PM in the Cafeteria. This meeting will share important information about Project Grad, a safe, fun-filled, substance-free celebration held on graduation night to celebrate our seniors.

🌟 Transformational Lesson of the Week: Ms. Ballard! 🌟

We are excited to recognize Ms. Ballard for her innovative, student-centered approach in World Civilization! She has begun incorporating “Today in History” slides, which feature a blend of historical events, cultural moments, and relevant Kentucky history.

In just five minutes, this brief activity immediately engaged students: they selected the event they found most interesting, summarized, discussed their choice with a peer, and then used inferencing skills to generate a thoughtful question about the event. Though short, this subtle shift makes her lesson more transformational by integrating multiple elements of the Five Transformations:

Personal ❤️: Students connected history to their own interests.
Learner-Led 🚀: Students chose which event to focus on.
Real-World 🌎: Events included relevant historical and cultural contexts.
Learner-Owned 📝: Students summarized and questioned their learning.
Collaborative 🤝: Students discussed ideas with a peer, sharing perspectives.

This quick, five-minute activity shows that even small, intentional shifts can transform a lesson—making learning more engaging, meaningful, and student-centered.
