π Attention Juniors & Seniors - March 18 is SAT / Job Shadow Day! πΌ |
The SAT will take place on March 18, and it is an important opportunity for our juniors to demonstrate their learning and open doors for postsecondary opportunities. Families can support their students by reminding them of the importance of:
βοΈ Doing their very best βοΈ Getting plenty of rest the night before βοΈ Arriving to school on time βοΈ Bringing a fully charged Chromebook
While juniors are taking the SAT, seniors will participate in Job Shadow or College Visit Day, giving them the opportunity to explore their postsecondary plans. Students may spend time with a professional in a field of interest through a job shadow or visit a college campus to learn more about potential next steps after graduation. Students completing a job shadow must complete a minimum of six hours and have their experience verified by their supervisor. Students should bring the completed verification form back to their English teacher (or the front office if they do not have an English class). The Job Shadow Verification Form can be accessed here: π Job Shadow Verification Form
We are proud of the effort our students are putting into their preparation and look forward to seeing them shine both on test day and in their career exploration experiences! β¨ |

β¨π’ Transformational Lesson of the Week β Ms. Fessel! π’β¨ |
We are proud to recognize Ms. Fessel as our βTransformational Lesson of the Week!β
As part of a year-long, ongoing amusement park theme project, Honors Algebra 2 students are designing different attractions for the amusement parks their groups have created. This week, students applied what they recently learned about quadratic equations to design and build fountains for their parks. Students then presented their fountains and explained the math behind the design of their quadratic functions.
Earlier in the project, students used their knowledge of matrices to design and organize their concession stands. Next, they will apply what they learn about polynomial functions to design a roller coaster for their park.
Our Digital Learning Coach, Ms. Christie Turbeville, has also partnered with these classes to support the project. She worked with students to create Google Sites that serve as digital portfolios to house all of their work and learning throughout the project. Ms. Turbeville has also taught students how to responsibly use AI tools to generate images and visuals for their amusement parks, helping them bring their ideas to life while developing important digital literacy skills.
This project is transformational because it is personal, student-led, real-world, student-owned, and collaborative. Students choose their amusement park themes, collaborate with their teams to design attractions, and apply advanced math concepts to authentic designs that they present and explain.
It also highlights many of our districtβs Graduate Profile competencies: Mastery Learner π β Students apply Algebra 2 concepts like quadratics, matrices, and polynomials to real-world designs. Effective Communicator π£οΈ β Students present their fountain designs and clearly explain the math behind their functions.
Productive Collaborator π€ β Students work in teams to design and build components of their amusement parks. Innovative Problem Solver π‘ β Students creatively use mathematical models to design attractions and adjust their equations to make them work. Self-Directed Navigator π§ β Students manage a long-term project and apply new math concepts as they learn them.
Community Contributor π β Students design attractions that contribute to a fun, engaging amusement park experience. We are proud of the engaging, real-world learning experiences happening in Ms. Fesselβs classroom! ππ |
