✨ Transformational Lesson of the Week: Ms. Blair-Richcreek! ✨

Before Spring Break, students in Ms. Blair-Richcreek’s Spanish II and III classes truly brought language learning to life! 📚✨

As part of a project-based unit, students explored the past tense in Spanish while also learning about the power of storytelling for young learners. They planned, wrote, and illustrated their own bilingual children’s books in both Spanish and English.

Before Spring Break, their hard work came together at a Bilingual Book Fair at Roby Elementary School, where they shared their stories with both Spanish- and English-speaking students. It was incredible to see our students step into the role of authors and teachers, making meaningful connections through language and literacy.

This lesson connected directly to our Graduate Profile competencies:

🗣️ Effective Communicator – Students used both Spanish and English to clearly express ideas, adapting their language for a younger audience.

📖 Mastery Learner – Through writing and applying past tense concepts, students demonstrated deep understanding and real-world application of their learning.

🤝 Productive Collaborator – Students worked together to plan, revise, and bring their stories to life, supporting one another throughout the process.

🧭 Self-Directed Navigator – From brainstorming ideas to publishing their final books, students took ownership of their learning and creativity.

🌎 Community Contributor – By sharing their books at Roby, students made a meaningful impact, promoting literacy and cross-cultural connections within our community.

This lesson is truly transformational because it moved beyond traditional classroom learning—students didn’t just practice language skills, they applied them in an authentic, meaningful way that impacted others. By creating and sharing bilingual books with younger students, they experienced the real-world purpose of communication, built confidence, and saw themselves as capable contributors who can use their knowledge to make a difference.
