✨ Transformational Lesson of the Week: Ms. Vires! ✨

Our students in Ms. Vires’ Biology class are digging into learning—literally! 🦴 Last week, students stepped into the role of archaeologists during a hands-on “fossil dig” to better understand the Law of Superposition. By carefully examining fossil placement in layers, they explored how scientists determine the relative age of fossils—figuring out which are older and which are newer.

This engaging, real-world learning experience connects directly to several of our district’s Graduate Profile competencies:

🔍 Mastery Learner – Students applied scientific concepts in a meaningful, hands-on way, deepening their understanding of the Law of Superposition beyond the textbook.

🧠 Innovative Problem Solver – Through analyzing fossil layers and making evidence-based conclusions, students practiced critical thinking and problem-solving skills just like real scientists.

💬 Effective Communicator – Students discussed their findings and explained how fossil position relates to age, strengthening their ability to communicate scientific ideas clearly.

🤝 Productive Collaborator – Working together during the dig, students shared observations, tested ideas, and learned from one another.

🎯 Self-Directed Navigator – This inquiry-based activity encouraged students to take ownership of their learning, ask questions, and make discoveries independently.

Experiences like this bring learning to life and show students the power of discovery. Way to go, Ms. Vires! 👏

🏅 Celebrating EOP Student Success! 🎉

We recently recognized students who passed their End of Program (EOP) assessments! 👏

Earning a passing score on an EOP in their career pathway is an important step toward becoming postsecondary ready—and meeting a key graduation requirement. This achievement reflects not only academic knowledge, but also the skills and commitment needed for success beyond high school.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, perseverance, and accomplishment. The future is bright for our BC Cougars! 🐾
