Shepherdsville Elementary School

The Stingray Scoop

At Shepherdsville, we use a House System to help build community and school spirit. We have five houses: Greatness, Grit, Growth, Kindness, and Courage. Each house has its own color, so your child might say something like, “I’m in the Blue House” or “I’m in the House of Greatness.”

This week, take a moment to ask your student about the House System—find out which house they’re in and have them share their house chant with you. They’re so proud of them, and they’re pretty awesome!

Upcoming Info

We’re excited to kick off our first Family Meeting of the year on Tuesday morning!

Family Meetings are a special time when students from all grade levels (K–5) come together in small groups with a “family leader” from our building. Each student’s family group is part of their House, and during these meetings they get to:

  • Build connections with friends from different grades

  • Learn important life and leadership skills.

  • Have lots of fun together!

Each month, one House is named our House Winner and earns a special reward!

We’d love for all students to show their school pride by wearing their House color on Tuesday!

Info from PTO

The first SNACK CART of the year will be on
Friday, September 19th!

The class that sells the most beef sticks will earn a popsicle party from the PTO!

Family Connection – Sharing Builds Connection

Spend a few quiet minutes together today to share something special with each other. This simple act helps children learn how to open up, listen, and connect—skills that build strong friendships at home and at school.

Here are a few ways to start:

Grown-Up Shares First:

  • Tell your child about a favorite hobby or activity you loved when you were their age.

  • Share a funny or surprising story from your childhood.

  • Talk about something that made you feel proud or excited when you were younger.

Child Shares Next:

  • Ask them: “What’s something you love doing right now?”

  • “Can you tell me a fun or silly memory you have?”

  • “What’s something that makes you laugh every time you think of it?”

Why this matters:
When families take time to share personal stories and interests, children feel valued, heard, and understood. It also teaches them how to connect with others by being open and kind—an important part of building strong friendships.

Try This: Make "share time" a weekly tradition—at dinner, bedtime, or during a walk. You might be surprised by what you learn about each other!

Reminders

Afternoon Car Rider Line

We wanted to share a couple of reminders about the car rider line:

  • Please have your car rider tag hanging in your rearview mirror.

  • Please stay in a single-file line until staff directs you to split into two lines. This helps keep traffic flowing so our buses can exit safely.

  • Once you are directed into a lane, stay in that lane and do not switch after passing the staff member inputting numbers. Switching lanes can cause students to walk past the crosswalk area, which creates a safety risk.

  • We load a set number of cars at a time so students stay safely between the staff at the front of the line and the crosswalk.
