🍂 October at Brooks: Learning, Community & Celebration!

October is full of opportunities for our Broncos to grow as learners, celebrate traditions, serve others, and make memories together! Here's what's happening at Brooks!

🌟 Student-Led Conferences | Thursday, October 22 | 4:30–7:00 PM

This is one of the most important opportunities for families to connect with their child's learning this year!

Our student-led conferences are different from traditional parent-teacher conferences. Instead of adults doing most of the talking, your child will take the lead!

Students will share:

  1. Who I am as a learner: Their strengths and what makes them proud.
  2. My learning: Examples of their work and what they've learned.
  3. My goals: What they're working toward next.
  4. My family connection: How you can help them continue growing.

Why does this matter? When children can explain their learning, recognize their progress, and set goals, they begin taking ownership of their success. We're building confident learners who understand that growth takes effort!

Families, your most important job is to listen, ask questions, and celebrate your child! We aren't looking for perfect presentations. We're celebrating student voices, reflection, and growth.

💜 Purple Star Service Club | Donations Throughout October

Our Purple Star Service Club is collecting donations to create Christmas gifts for 450 deployed service members!

Families can send small, lightweight items such as snacks, candy, puzzle books, playing cards, pens, and comfort items.

This project helps our Broncos practice gratitude, kindness, and service while honoring those who serve our country.

🌼 Día de los Muertos | School-Wide Ofrenda

We're creating a school-wide ofrenda to honor and remember loved ones and beloved pets who have passed away.

Families are invited to send a copy of a photograph and, if they'd like, a special memory or note by October 24. Photos can also be emailed to haley.stewart@bullitt.kyschools.us.

Participation is completely voluntary. This beautiful tradition helps students develop cultural appreciation, empathy, and a sense of community.

🎄 Save the Date! Starry Nights & Bronco Lights

Friday, December 4 | 6:30–8:30 PM

Our holiday drive-thru is coming back! We're looking forward to filling Brooks with lights, holiday cheer, and special memories for our families.

We'd love for our community to be part of the magic! If you, your family, organization, or business would like to decorate and host a space along our holiday drive-thru, please reach out to the school. We'd love to partner with you!

At Brooks, excellence begins with more than academics. It grows through student ownership, family partnerships, service to others, and a community that shows up for one another. Thank you for being part of all the things that make Brooks #theBESt! ❤️

💪 Responsibility in Action: Small Choices, Big Impact!

Throughout October, our Broncos have been learning that responsibility isn't just about doing what we're supposed to do. It's about recognizing that our choices impact ourselves and others.

As we wrap up our focus on Responsibility, encourage your child to think about how they've grown in this area.

Try these conversation starters at home:

What's something you've started doing without being reminded?

How have your choices helped someone else?

What's one responsibility you're still working to improve?

🌟 Family Challenge: Own It!

Ask your child to choose one responsibility they can take ownership of this week without reminders. It might be packing their backpack, completing homework, helping with a chore, or getting ready for bed.

At the end of the week, celebrate their effort and talk about how their actions made a difference!

Our goal is to raise children who don't just follow directions, but recognize their ability to make positive choices, take initiative, and contribute to their community. That's what it means to Be Strong at Brooks!

Future-Ready Broncos

🎓 Our Graduate Profile in Action: 2nd Grade!

Our 2nd graders are showing what it means to take their learning beyond the classroom and use it for a meaningful purpose!

After reviewing their first myView reading assessment, our 2nd grade teachers noticed that students needed more practice using text features, such as headings and pictures, to understand informational texts.

During their Project Week, students put those skills to work by creating informational books all about Brooks Elementary! These books are designed to help new students learn about our school and feel welcome when they enroll. With the help of Mrs. Crisp's bookbinding tool, students even turned their work into real books!

This is our Graduate Profile in action! Students used feedback to grow as learners, applied their knowledge to a real-world task, and created something that will make a difference for others.

Learning with purpose. Growing through feedback. Leading by serving others.

That's what it means to be a Brooks Bronco! ❤️
